Quick answer
Quotable content starts with a direct 40–60 word answer under a question-style heading, followed by details, tables and sourced figures. Structured data (Organization, FAQPage, Article, BreadcrumbList) tells engines who you are and what the page contains. Together they raise citation odds.
The answer unit
Phrase the heading exactly as the customer's question, then answer fully in the first paragraph so it stands alone. Models extract passages, so make each one self-contained.
The most important schema types
| Type | Use |
|---|---|
| Organization | Brand name, logo and sameAs official profiles |
| FAQPage | FAQs visible on the page |
| Article | Author and date for articles |
| BreadcrumbList | The page's place in the site |
| LocalBusiness | Address and city for local businesses |
Never put anything in schema that is not visible on the page, or self-serving reviews.
The llms.txt file
A text file at the site root summarising who you are and your key pages. Not a standard every engine honours, but cheap and helpful for tools that read it.
Frequently asked questions
Does structured data guarantee AI Overviews?
No, but it eases understanding. Helpful content and external sources matter more.
